Join NMASLA on Friday, June 2nd, for tours of two fascinating facilities! You can earn up to 5 CEU credits for attending both sessions. The event is free for NMASLA members, $25 fee for non-members.
The morning session will include a tour of the Southside Wastewater Reclamation Plant, which treats approximately 55 million gallons of water each day. The plant is the largest wastewater treatment plant in New Mexico and treats water from Albuquerque, parts of Tijeras Canyon, and parts of Rio Rancho. Attendees will see the treatment of water from the time it enters the plant as polluted urban water until it leaves and is reintroduced into the Rio Grande river as clean water to serve downstream users. Please note: long pants and closed toe shoes are required for this tour.
The afternoon session will include a presentation and tour of the Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge, which offers a unique environmental education and recreation opportunity in a highly populated urban area. The presentation will discuss the partnership among AMAFCA, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and other organizations in formulating a plan for one of the nation’s newest wildlife refuges. The presentation will discuss the refuge and its goals, the integrated drainage design for the refuge and the master plan that will guide the development of this jewel in the system.
Lunch will be provided between sessions.
You can register for the morning session, afternoon session, or both.
